"The DSM captures the what. These modules carry the why — and the how of healing with dignity."
A completed, live, culturally grounded clinical training platform — built to serve African American individuals and families with dignity, clinical rigor, and historical truth.
This platform is not a reaction to a trend — it is the culmination of research that began in 2020, when the founder started actively collecting and studying African American resource guides, health disparity data, and culturally specific clinical materials. Early research included close study of resources such as the Greater Iowa African American Resource Guide, published by the Iowa Accountability Program — the only statewide African American resource guide in Iowa, used for over a decade to strengthen connections between African American community members and the broader state. What began as a personal research practice has grown into a structured body of original clinical content, built from direct study of the gaps in existing systems.
Existing clinical data systems were built within frameworks that frequently misrepresent, pathologize, or erase the lived experience of Black Americans. Diagnoses are applied without cultural context. Generational trauma is labeled as personality deficit. Clinicians enter practice with no training in the cultural intelligence this population requires.
The platform is complete and operational — 29 clinical modules, each pairing diagnosis with generational context, naming what uninformed clinicians get wrong, and carrying its evidence base alongside its cultural adaptation. Built for solo practitioners, supervisees, group practice clinicians, and any provider seeking genuine competence with this population.
This platform is already infrastructure for something larger — a body of outcomes data that finally tells the truth about Black mental health, a training standard other clinicians can adopt today, and a publishable, grantable research foundation built from real clinical practice. The work now is reach: putting this tool in front of the clinicians, institutions, and training programs who need it.
Rooted In Hope Therapy, PLLC is seeking partnership, funding, and collaboration to expand this platform's reach across training institutions and clinical practices — putting a finished, working tool into the hands of more clinicians.
